Weeding at Pine Hill Preserve

Weed Event

Cameron Park unit of Pine Hill Preserve

Calling all weed warriors! Our chapter is a supporting organization for our local Pine Hill Preserve, a series of land units in western El Dorado County for the conservation of habitats of a collection of rare plant species, some of which are found nowhere else on the planet.

To protect surrounding human habitats from fire and to improve the habitats of the rare plants, fuel breaks are being established along the perimeters of the Preserve units, including the Cameron Park unit. Some invasive weedy plant species have managed to find their way into the fuel breaks, and our chapter is helping to remove them by hand. A benefit to you for helping with this effort is that you’ll learn about these special places and plants, and why they’re so special!

Our next weeding event is scheduled for Thursday, Aug 15. We will meet at 8:00 AM in the parking lot of the Goldorado/Bel Air shopping center off Cameron Park Drive, near the Goldorado Animal Hospital and Vibes Salon. Take Cameron Park Drive north from highway 50, and turn right into the parking lot just after passing the Kwik Serv gas station. If you miss that turn, turn right at the stop light onto Palmer Drive. Then turn right into the parking lot after passing the Los Pinos Restaurant.

We will carpool up to the site and work for approximately 2 to 2.5 hours and then carpool back to the meeting place.

Bring water, gloves, a hat, insect repellent, sunscreen, and your favorite weeding tool. We suggest you wear long pants and good hiking footwear.
