Quarry Trail takes off from Hwy 49 just south of the bridge that crosses the American River where the North Fork confluences with the Middle Fork. The trail is on an old railroad bed that was used to transport limestone from the quarry and takes you alongside the river. On the south side of the trail are some lovely rock walls, covered in mosses and ferns, as well as the seedlings of our spring flowering plants. We’ll also see up to 7 species of oaks, as well as California Bay.
