Cronan Ranch, just north of Magnolia Ranch has a number of trails, each with its own special features, and is popular for mountain biking, equestrian, hiking, and plant appreciation. Like Magnolia Ranch, there are various habitats including riparian along the American River, oak woodlands, and expansive grasslands. We will walk on a trail that will take us to a serpentine outcrop, that should the rain gods bless us, should have lovely early flowers including goldfields and bird’s eye gilia. We’ll also look for other early bloomers along the way as well as fungi. March is a lovely time to appreciate early spring tree leaves and oak flowers – bring your hand lens if you’d like to see these wonders up close!
Difficulty: Easy-moderate. We’ll be walking about 3-4 miles total. There will be some gentle slope climbing. There is a pit toilet at the parking lot.
