North Table Mountain Ecological Reserve, north of Oroville.

Oh, my! A vast profusion of wildflowers! If the rains have been good, North Table Mountain in late March into April is a wildflower paradise. This makes it a VERY popular place to visit, and so we’ll need to visit during the week, arrive early, and carpool, as the parking is limited. To learn more about North Table Mountain, visit the California Fish and Wildlife website about the Reserve.

You might also like to purchase ahead of time the lovely book by Bills and Mackey, Wildflowers of Table Mountain, a Naturalist’s Guide, which can be ordered from Chico State’s Studies from the Herbarium.

Please note, a daily or annual California State Lands Pass is required and can be purchased online here.

We will meet to carpool at 6:45 am from El Dorado Hills at the Town Center parking lot in the northwest corner between Starbucks and Emigh Hardware. Travel time is about 2 ½ hours, so to reach the Reserve by 9:30 am, we will leave El Dorado Hills promptly at 7 am. We will leave the Reserve at about 2:30 to get back to El Dorado Hills by about 5 pm.

Difficulty: Easy-moderate. We will walk on and off trails, which includes some rocky places and some hill climbing, to cover about 2 -3 miles total. There are porta-potties at the parking lot.
